Our Worship & Music Ministry Team, chaired by Heather Zimmer, plans, reviews, and improves all aspects of worship services at Messiah Lutheran Church, supports our worship leaders and supports the celebration of various life passages in the life of our members.
Our 10:00am Sunday Mass uses a variety of Holy Communion liturgies, all supported by our recently reformed choir and our accomplished Minister of Music, Douglas J. Chilton. If you are familiar with Lutheran worship, you will be familiar with the liturgies we use from hymnals including Evangelical Lutheran Worship and All Creation Sings. We begin each Sunday Mass with a 15 minute optional time of musical meditation.
If you are new to the Lutheran church or have never experienced worshiping in a liturgical denomination such as the Roman Catholic Church or Episcopal Church, you will find traditional worship to be a new experience! Liturgical worship revolves around an ancient formula of gathering, word, meal and sending. It is a combination of participation from the congregation and worship leaders with much of the worship being sung. At the heart of worship is the Lord’s Supper, which we celebrate each week.
Messiah utilizes some of the most ancient traditions of the Christian movement, but we seek to do so in a more casual, contemporary way than many liturgical congregations. We believe this allows us to welcome everyone, those who prefer more traditional and more contemporary worship alike, in one common assembly.
As part of Messiah's stated value of being a welcoming and inviting congregation for all people, everyone is welcome to participate in weekly communion. For those with young children who would prefer to wait for their child's first communion, a blessing is instead offered. Home baked bread, wine, grape juice, gluten free options and prepackaged communion for those with health concerns are all available.
Children and youth play a central role in our worship at Messiah. Every Sunday our young people contribute to the service as acolytes, crucifers, lectors, greeters, members of the choir and more. We always have a children's sermon and special age-appropriate activity bulletins are provided.
For those who cannot make it to worship in person, all of our primary Sunday Mass and Holy Day services are live streamed both on our Facebook Page and our Worship Online page.
Other aspects of our Worship & Music Ministry Team include our Choir, our Altar Guild and our Prayer Committee.
Our Worship & Music Ministry Team every other month, usually on the first Monday of the month at 7:00pm at https://zoom.us/j/96341841016.
