BREAD OF LIFE FOOD PANTRY
Our Bread of Life Food Pantry, chaired by Judy Becker and Jill Becker, serves our neighbors in need and builds community.
Inspired by a Daily Gazette article highlighting the high rate of students receiving free or reduced lunches in the Mohonasen School District, Messiah opened our Bread of Life Food Pantry in a tiny church kitchen space on October 4th, 2015.
Since that time, the Bread of Life Food Pantry has grown to serve over 1300 meals a month within US Hunger & Nutrition Assistance Program (HPNAP) guidelines. With the generous support of the Schenectady Foundation's Healthy Food Access for All program, in May 2022 the Bread of Life Food Pantry moved into a new, state of the art, one thousand square foot facility at the Trinity Community Center at 705 Curry Road in Rotterdam. It currently operates three sessions a month and plans to begin operating on a weekly basis this July.
If you would like to set up an appointment or wish to receive more information, please call 518.374.5104, leave your name and the best phone number to contact you, and we will forward your information to our food pantry coordinator as soon as we can.
We currently operate on a choice model where guests are invited to fill out a form regarding what food items they'd like to to take home. Our friendly volunteers will then fill the order while guests wait in their vehicles.
The Bread of Life Food Pantry is generously supported by Price Chopper and Market 32 Supermarkets, Stewart's Shops, Concerned for the Hungry, ELCA World Hunger, Schenectady Community Ministries, the Schenectady Foundation, members of Messiah and community donors.
The Bread of Life Food Pantry is a member of Food Pantries of the Capital District.
