Never been to Messiah? Never been to church? No problem!
Our Sunday Mass, which begins at 10:00am, revolves around the ancient Christian formula of gathering, word, meal and sending. It is a combination of participation from the congregation and worship leaders with much of the worship being sung. At the heart of worship is the Lord’s Supper, which we celebrate each week. Although we follow some of the earliest of Christian traditions, we also put a high priority on worship being fresh, engaging, and relevant to twenty-first century life. After worship we always gather over coffee, food, great conversation and many special events in our Fellowship Hall.
During the school year, faith formation for adults begins at 8:45am while faith formation for children and youth takes place during Mass around 10:30am. Children's Sunday School is a fun, casual, but powerful way to support our young people as they grow in faith, make friends, build confidence and learn about Jesus. High school and middle school youth separately gather for additional conversation and we always have an adult faith formation class, generally taught by a retired Professor of Religion as well!
At Messiah, we live out our faith in a way that is integrally connected with our community. Throughout the year we plan fun family-oriented events including trips to watch our local sports teams in action, an afternoon of roller skating, an ice-cream social and more. We serve our neighbors in partnership with Schenectady Community Ministries, City Mission of Schenectady and other organizations. Most recently, we have also launched the Rotterdam Community Center in service to all our neighbors here in Rotterdam, New York!
