Need food? The work of Messiah's Nutrition Security Committee, chaired by Ann Marie Gray, provides healthy and nutritious food to all our neighbors in two important ways through our support of the Rotterdam Community Center at 705 Curry Road here in Rotterdam, New York.
Our Bread of Life Food Pantry is by appointment at various times during the week. Bread of Life can help you with three meals for three days per member of your household. To set up an appointment, call Chris at 518.364.3205, leave your name and the best phone number to contact you, and we will assist you as soon as we can.
Upon arrival for your appointment, you'll be invited to fill out a form regarding what food items they'd like to to take home. Our friendly volunteers will then fill the order and bring it to your vehicle!
The Bread of Life Food Pantry operates with the generous support of the Schenectady Foundation's Healthy Food Access for All program, Price Chopper and Market 32 Supermarkets, Stewart's Shops, Concerned for the Hungry, Hannaford Supermarkets, the Sycamore Collaborative, the Food Pantries of the Capital District, Messiah members and a wide variety of local community members.
Inspired by a Daily Gazette article highlighting the high rate of students receiving free or reduced lunches in the Mohonasen School District, Messiah opened our Bread of Life Food Pantry in a tiny church kitchen space on October 4th, 2015.
Since that time, the Bread of Life Food Pantry has grown to serve over 1300 meals a month within US Hunger & Nutrition Assistance Program (HPNAP) guidelines. With the generous support of the Schenectady Foundation's Healthy Food Access for All program, in May 2022 the Bread of Life Food Pantry moved into a new, state of the art, one thousand square foot facility at the Rotterdam Community Center at 705 Curry Road in Rotterdam.
The Bread of Life Food Pantry currently operates three physical sessions a month: 3rd Monday from 9a - 2p, 4th Monday from 3p - 8p, 4th Saturday from 9a - 2p. It also supports the Food Pantries of the Capital District by packing meals for delivery on a weekly basis.
Our Produce Pantry is first come, first serve and operates every Friday at 4:30pm until supplies run low. The Produce Pantry can help you with fresh fruits and vegetables to supplement existing meal options. While many of our neighbors may need a full service appointment with Bread of Life to get a wide variety of necessary food items for the weeks ahead, some may simply need to stop by and pick up some fresh produce for a couple days. That's where our weekly Produce Pantry at the Rotterdam Community Center comes in!
Each Friday at 4:30pm our amazing volunteers distribute a wide variety of fresh produce from the Regional Food Bank of Northeastern New York on a first come, first serve basis.
Guests often gather in our parking lot and a beautiful sense of community has developed over the last year! We currently serve roughly 130 families each week.
