There's an essential part of faith formation that just can't take place within the four walls of a church building, and that's spending time with friends and family in the beauty of God's creation. At Messiah, we especially like to do that sort of thing at a place called Camp Calumet Lutheran in Freedom, New Hampshire.
Calumet Camp has been a center of Lutheran living throughout the Northeast for over fifty years. Nestled on beautiful Lake Ossipee in the foothills of the White Mountains (on the former site of President Grover Cleveland's hunting lodge, by the way), Calumet organizes a resident camp for kids age 8-18, a day camp for kids age 6-12 and a family camp ground in the summer and runs a wide variety of retreats from it's beautiful conference center during cooler months.
In addition to supporting all our youth (12 in 2019) to attend a week of resident camp, we organize week-long trips to family camp, an annual confirmation camp and will be experimenting with a long weekend family retreat this autumn.
Our Calumet Ministry is coordinated by Kristen Olochnowicz.
